Job Title: Section Engineer

Contract: 6-Month Initial Contract, Freelance
Rate: £400 per day (Inside IR35)
Reports to: Project Manager/Senior Engineer
Job Purpose
As a Section Engineer, you will play a key role in the successful delivery of construction projects by managing engineering control, quality, health, safety, environmental factors, productivity, and commercial aspects. You will ensure the effective execution of engineering tasks while coaching and guiding your subordinates to achieve project goals within defined timelines and budgets.
Key Accountabilities
Engineering Control
Complex Setting Out: Execute complex setting out tasks with precision, ensuring accurate implementation.
Primary Setting Out Control: Provide 'primary' setting out control, identifying and selecting optimal locations for installations.
Coaching & Development: Mentor and train subordinates on advanced setting out techniques to build team competency.
Quality
Activity Control Plans: Develop and implement detailed Activity Control Plans (ACP) to maintain project quality standards.
Specification Adherence: Actively reference and adhere to project specifications to ensure compliance and quality.
Quality Record Management: Maintain an organized and comprehensive filing system for all quality records.
Non-Conformance Management: Identify, document, and resolve Non-Conformance Reports (NCRs) effectively.
Technical Queries: Raise and resolve Technical Queries (TQs) with potential solutions to prevent project delays.
Health, Safety & Environmental
Method Statements & Risk Assessments: Produce thorough Method Statements and Risk Assessments to manage project risks.
Temporary Works Briefs: Prepare and issue Temporary Works Briefs as required.
Visitor Induction: Conduct 'short-term' inductions for visitors, ensuring compliance with site safety regulations.
Incident Reporting: Maintain the Accident Book and complete associated reports following incidents or near-misses.
Productivity
Weekly Programme Management: Develop and monitor weekly project programmes, measuring progress against Key Performance Indicators (KPIs).
Team Communication: Effectively communicate weekly project targets and expectations to the workforce.
Commercial
Weekly Measure & Budget Monitoring: Collate and analyze weekly measurement data, monitoring resource usage against budget allowances and KPIs.
Labour & Plant Reconciliation: Conduct reconciliation of labour and plant usage to ensure efficiency.
Additional Work Identification: Identify additional work requirements, raising necessary notifications to ensure contractual obligations are met.
Contractual Compliance: Ensure all work aligns with the terms, conditions, and outputs specified by relevant subcontractors and suppliers.
Personal Qualities and Experience
Essential Qualifications & Experience
Reinforced Concrete (RC) Experience: Must have proven experience working with reinforced concrete structures.
Major Civils Experience: Demonstrated experience in major civil engineering projects.
Engineering Control: Proven ability to perform complex setting out tasks with high precision.
Quality Management: Demonstrated experience in producing and managing Activity Control Plans, with a strong understanding of construction tolerances.
Health, Safety & Environmental: Knowledge of the Permit to Work system, with the ability to identify hazards and implement proactive safety measures.
Productivity Management: Competence in interpreting and utilizing information from the 13-week Stage Programme to enhance project efficiency.
Commercial Acumen: Strong understanding of contract documentation, with experience in managing subcontractor and supplier outputs within specific terms and conditions.
Additional Requirements
Safety Critical Medical: Must have a current Safety Critical Medical.
CSCS Card: Must possess a valid CSCS card.
Highways Passport: A Highways Passport would be a bonus
