As a Functional Skills Tutor (English and Maths) at HMP Isis, you will play a crucial role in helping learners develop essential skills that will serve them throughout their lives. You will be responsible for delivering engaging and effective lessons, tailoring your teaching to meet the needs of each individual learner. Your passion for education and dedication to learners' success will make you a valuable asset to our team.
This is an exciting opportunity to work as part of a close-knit, supportive team committed to staff well-being. You will join a team of four Functional Skills tutors led by an experienced manager, who will provide support with Continuous Professional Development (CPD) and training.
This role is full-time and permanent, requiring 37 hours per week over 4.5 days: Monday to Thursday from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm, with a 1:00 pm finish on Fridays. You will work with a maximum of 8-10 learners at a time.
Responsibilities of the Functional Skills Tutor
Deliver engaging and inspiring English lessons that motivate learners and encourage self-directed learning.
Tailor both accredited and non-accredited programmes to align with the unique needs and interests of learners.
Develop individualised learning plans that equip learners with essential skills, knowledge, and behaviours for positive progression.
Foster a supportive educational environment that promotes academic success and personal growth.
Assess learners’ progress, provide constructive feedback, and assist them in achieving their educational goals.
Essential Qualifications and Experience for The Functional Skills Tutor
A minimum of Level 2 in Maths and English (GCSE grades 9 to 4, A* to C, or equivalent).
A qualification in the specialist subject area of Functional Skills English.
Demonstrable experience in delivering effective teaching within the subject specialism, particularly within the prison education sector is desirable.
A Level 5 UK teaching qualification or equivalent.
