About the Role
As the Health and Safety Manager, you will be instrumental in ensuring the wellbeing of everyone within our organisation, from colleagues and volunteers to the children and young people we serve. This role is ideal for someone who shares our passion for creating safe, inclusive environments. You will lead the development of health and safety policies, provide training, and maintain compliance with relevant regulations. We especially welcome applicants from diverse backgrounds and those with personal insights into the challenges faced by young people and children with disabilities.
Key Responsibilities
* Deliver all activity on the health and assurance framework.
* Conduct health and safety site visits and reviews on all our settings.
* Design, implement, and regularly review health and safety policies
* Conduct routine risk assessments to ensure all sites and activities are safe, accessible, and inclusive.
* Foster a culture of safety awareness by delivering relevant training to all colleagues.
* Ensure compliance with all legal and regulatory health, safety, and safeguarding requirements.
* Serve as the primary contact for health and safety concerns, including managing incidents and liaising with authorities.
* Collaborate with teams to create strategies that prioritise the safety and inclusion of children with disabilities.
* Provide colleagues and volunteers with practical guidance on managing risks while promoting accessibility.
* Lead investigations into incidents, identifying solutions to prevent future occurrences.
* Stay current with health and safety best practices, particularly those related to children with disabilities, by working with external experts.
* Oversee the maintenance of inclusive and accessible facilities, updating safety protocols as needed.
* Manage workplace risks by identifying hazards, evaluating their impact, and implementing measures to control them.
* Ensure workers are informed about risks and emergency procedures, and assess the effectiveness of safety training, scheduling refreshers when needed.
* Facilitate open communication between staff and management on health and safety concerns, enabling a collaborative approach to workplace safety.
* Appoint skilled individuals to assist in meeting health and safety obligations and ensure continuous improvement in risk management.
Skills and Experience
* Proven experience in a health and safety role, ideally within the care, education, or charity sectors.
* Relevant health and safety qualifications (e.g., NEBOSH, IOSH) are preferred but not essential.
* In-depth knowledge of health and safety regulations, with an emphasis on inclusion and accessibility.
* Familiarity with the health and safety needs of young people and children with disabilities is highly desirable.
* Strong communication skills, with the ability to convey information to diverse audiences.
* Ability to collaborate effectively with various stakeholders, including colleagues, volunteers, and service users.
* Excellent organisational and problem-solving skills with a keen attention to detail.
* A proactive, adaptable approach, committed to fostering a positive, safe, and inclusive environment for all.
