About the role:
As an SEN Teaching Assistant with a specialism in Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), you will play a vital role in supporting children with ASD across Key Stages 1 and 2. This is a full-time, long-term position where you will work closely with the class teacher and SENCO (Special Educational Needs Coordinator) to create tailored support plans for individual students.
Your role will involve assisting students in both classroom and 1:1 settings, helping them develop their social and academic skills, and encouraging positive behaviour. You will be instrumental in creating a safe, nurturing space where children feel valued and understood, enabling them to reach their full potential.
Application Requirements:
• Experience working with children on the autism spectrum in a school setting.
• Knowledge of autism-specific teaching strategies and communication methods, such as PECS or Makaton.
• A proactive approach to managing challenging behaviours.
• The ability to build trusting relationships with students, parents, and staff.
• A genuine passion for making a positive impact in the lives of children with special educational needs.
Key Responsibilities:
• Supporting children with ASD in both classroom and individual settings.
• Collaborating with the class teacher and SENCO to develop and implement Individual Education Plans (IEPs).
• Providing tailored interventions to support students’ social, emotional, and academic development.
• Assisting in the development of communication skills using autism-specific tools such as visual aids, schedules, and sensory equipment.
• Promoting positive behaviour and implementing behaviour management strategies where needed.
• Supporting students with transitions, both within the school and to external activities.
