This role has a starting salary of £32,512 per annum based on a 36-hour working week. This is a 1-year fixed term role to cover maternity leave.
We are excited to be hiring for a Safer Travel Support Officer to join our fantastic Safer Travel Team. The team are based in Woking, but cover the whole county. As a team we operate a hybrid style combining remote working with up to two days a week in the office to network with colleagues and attend team meetings.

The Safer Travel Team are part of the wider Road Safety and Sustainable Schools Travel Team. We are a small team but committed, professional and outcome driven! The aim of the Road Safety and Schools Sustainable Travel Team is to reduce road casualties, reduce anti-social driving and promote more walking and cycling. This will be achieved through a variety of measures including highway safety engineering and infrastructure improvements, working with the police on the enforcement of road traffic law (particularly using safety cameras), and education, training and promotional campaigns to improve pedestrian and cycling skills and improved road user behaviour.
The provision of pedestrian (walking) and cycle training and a large part of the promotion of active travel is via schools. The Safer Travel Team is integral to the promotion of active and sustainable travel through the production of school travel plans. The team work closely with a range of other teams in the council's Environment and Infrastructure Directorate, regularly responding to queries from County Council Members, schools, District and Borough colleagues and parish councils.
About the Role
In this role you will assist on our new flagship school's initiative: 'Feet First: Walking Training'. A key responsibility of this role is to provide support in the delivery and continued development of Feet First: Walking Training to all primary schools, as well as the recruitment and ongoing administration of bank workers employed to deliver the scheme. The role is within a nurturing team atmosphere, and it will enable you to help develop and increase our achievements to date. No two days will be the same, when dealing with schools, residents and key stakeholders. This is a customer facing service where the needs of our customers are at the centre of delivery.
Shortlisting Criteria
To be considered for shortlisting for this position your CV and answers to the questions below will clearly evidence:
Educated to A level or equivalent alternative
Knowledge of either pedestrian training or behaviour change programmes
Knowledge of approaches and methods used to change behaviours of individuals and organisations
Good written and oral communication skills with the ability to build sound relationships with customers
Ability to prepare and present reports in a logical and digestible format with a methodical approach to information gathering and recording
High level administrative and organisational skills with good IT skills (including Powerpoint, Word and Excel)
Able to prioritise and plan own workload in the context of conflicting priorities and work on own initiativeAs part of your application you will be asked to answer the following questions:
