Position: SEND School, Learning Support Staff
Location: Horsham
Salary: £127 per day
Job Type: Monday - Friday, term time only
Contract: Full-time, temporary-to-permanent
We are looking for a dedicated and compassionate individual to join a fantastic SEMH (Social, Emotional, and Mental Health) specialist school, working with primary or secondary -aged children who have a range of Special Educational Needs and Social Emotional and Mental Health Needs. This role focuses on supporting children who may exhibit complex behaviours and require strong emotional and behavioural support. The ideal candidate will be resilient, have experience supporting children with special educational needs, and passionate about helping children who have been through trauma to overcome barriers to learning and personal growth.
Key Responsibilities:
* Provide 1:1 and small group support to students with SEMH/SEND needs, helping them engage with their learning and manage their emotions.
* Manage challenging behaviour in line with the school's positive behaviour strategies, using de-escalation techniques and fostering a safe environment.
* Build trusting and supportive relationships with students, promoting emotional well-being and resilience.
* Collaborate with teachers, support staff, and external agencies to develop and implement individualised learning and behaviour plans.
* Support the social and emotional development of students, encouraging positive behaviour and self-regulation strategies.
* Help maintain a structured and inclusive classroom environment, addressing any safeguarding concerns in line with school policies.

* Experience working with children with additional needs or similar (e.g. behavioural or emotional support).
* A calm, patient, and resilient approach to working with young people who may display complex and challenging behaviours.
* Strong communication and teamwork skills, with the ability to build rapport with students, staff, and external professionals.
* A flexible and proactive attitude, able to adapt to the emotional and behavioural needs of students.
* A passion for supporting the holistic development of young people and helping them overcome barriers to learning.
