Job Title: Senior Project Manager – HVDC Converters

A solid Electrical & Instrumentation (E&I) background, with hands-on experience working with power systems and converter technologies.

Familiarity with EMS/SCADA systems and their cybersecurity requirements.
Position Overview:
As a Senior Project Manager, you will play a critical role in overseeing the development of HVDC converter systems, from design through to commissioning. A strong background in Electrical and Instrumentation (E&I) is essential for this role, as well as hands-on experience with HVDC converters. You will provide technical guidance, ensure regulatory compliance, and lead a multidisciplinary team to achieve project milestones. You will be responsible for the successful implementation of a legislative framework, dynamic battery sizing strategies, and the integration of renewable energy systems like PV and wind turbines.
Key Responsibilities:
Regulatory Framework: Implement and enforce a comprehensive legislative and regulatory framework tailored for an island grid operation, substituting the standard codes used for interconnected systems.
Project Specifications: Ensure that all project specifications are met. Address any deviations by proposing and implementing viable solutions.
Technical Selection: Oversee the selection of PV systems, wind turbines, battery systems, and their associated power converters, ensuring their seamless integration within the designed system.
Battery System Design: Dynamically size the battery system, which plays a crucial role in ensuring grid stability and security.
Infrastructure Design: Supervise the design of power cables, MV and HV substations, and the transmission/distribution system. Work on the design of HVDC converters and offshore DC cables simultaneously.
Cost-Benefit and Risk Analysis: Lead cost-benefit analyses, design reviews, RAM (Reliability, Availability, Maintainability) studies, and safety protocols. Participate in power system simulations to ensure a robust design.
Testing & Commissioning: Oversee the entire lifecycle of the project, from design to commissioning, ensuring testing and installation processes are adhered to.
Control Systems Oversight: Implement and monitor control systems to guarantee secure and reliable system operation.
Power System Studies: Conduct and interpret power system studies to ensure that the designed system meets all technical and regulatory requirements.
Cybersecurity Integration: Ensure that the EMS/SCADA system is integrated with a robust cybersecurity framework.
Required Qualifications:
Educational Background: BSc/BEng in Electrical Engineering, Instrumentation, or a related discipline. Chartered Engineer status and membership in a relevant professional institution are essential.
Experience:
Extensive postgraduate experience in the power industry, with a focus on HVDC projects.
Strong project management consultancy (PMC) experience, particularly in projects involving HVDC converters and power transmission systems.
A solid E&I (Electrical and Instrumentation) background, with hands-on experience working with power systems and converter technologies.
Technical Expertise:
Deep understanding of HVDC converter systems, power system design, and battery storage systems.
Familiarity with EMS/SCADA systems and their cybersecurity requirements
