To be responsible for the strategic commissioning of services that deliver against the priorities and outcomes of the Council in relation to culture, heritage and tourism.
To be the lead officer for the implementation of new, innovative and creative cultural, heritage and tourism projects that support the priorities and outcomes of the Council.
To take lead responsibility on the client side for the development and provision of efficient, effective and customer-focused client services ensuring that the relevant providers are fulfilling their duties as part of their service level agreements to deliver cultural, heritage and tourism services.
To take the lead in delivering and developing the Council’s corporate and community Events programme.
To lead on the implementation and delivery of the council’s priorities in relation to events and to take responsibility for achieving a commercial income from them, where possible.
To provide strategic guidance and advice to members and officers across the council and stakeholders on events and to ensure that the Council discharges it statutory duties in respect of event planning.
Represent the council interest and work with the providers to ensure they make effective contributions to the delivery of the Councils priorities on culture, events, heritage and tourism, making the borough a great place to visit and supporting the growth agenda.
Lead on the management and development of relations with the providers, stakeholders and partners with the objective of achieving continuous improvement in the quality of the services.
Candidate must have:
Candidate must have an understanding of and commitment to the Council’s equal opportunities policies and ability to put into practice in the context of this post, as well as an understanding of and commitment to achieving the Council’s staff values and ability to put into practice in the context of this post.
Candidate must have substantial experience as a senior manager in a culture, events, heritage of tourism role or holding a recognised qualification and relevant experience.
Candidate must have exceptional verbal and non-verbal communication skills with the ability to communicate with and influence a wide range of stake holders at all levels both internally and externally.
Candidate must have experience of providing leadership, guidance and direction to staff to achieve agreed and sometimes demanding outcomes, as well as the ability to manage a change process through to the conclusion process with the understanding of the need for such.
Candidate must have knowledge of local government, legislation and public sector services including introducing new ways of working in order to maximise resources and improve effectiveness both within the organisation and partners.
Candidate must have experience of working in the culture, events, heritage or tourism sector, including up-to-date knowledge of key sector legislation and strategies, funding regimes and key personnel of key agencies in the sector.
Candidate must have experience of strategic planning, decision making and influencing strategic decision-makers in the culture, events, heritage or tourism sector, including experience of developing and implementing strategies and policies
