Parker Smith Inclusion is collaborating with a vibrant and inclusive two-form entry mainstream primary school that is dedicated to fostering a supportive and nurturing environment for all students. We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Teaching Assistant to join their team. This role primarily focuses on supporting a non-verbal Year 2 student diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC), who is functioning at an Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) level. Additionally, support for other students across the school will be required as necessary.
Role Overview:
As a SEND Teaching Assistant, you will play a vital role in providing tailored support to the student, helping them engage with their learning in ways that suit their individual needs. You will work closely with the class teacher and other educational professionals to promote a positive learning atmosphere. Your responsibilities will also include working with other pupils when the primary student is not present.
Key Responsibilities:
Provide personalised one-on-one support to a non-verbal Year 2 student with ASC, helping them engage with the curriculum and encouraging their independence.
Adapt and implement teaching methods to meet the student's specific learning requirements.
Facilitate sessions such as “What’s in the Bucket?” and other interactive activities to develop communication and social skills.
Collaborate with teachers to create and modify learning resources, ensuring accessibility and inclusivity for all.
Assist the student with social interactions and help foster positive peer relationships.
Monitor and document the student’s progress, providing feedback and insights to teaching staff and parents as necessary.
Actively engage with and assist other students in the classroom when the primary student is absent.
Qualifications and Skills:
Previous experience as a Teaching Assistant or in a similar role, particularly with children with ASC.
Training in Intensive Interaction techniques is an advantage.
Familiarity with the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) framework and experience with EYFS-level learners.
Strong communication and interpersonal skills, able to build meaningful relationships with students, staff, and parents.
Patience, empathy, and a genuine passion for supporting children with additional needs.
Ability to work independently and as part of a team, demonstrating flexibility and adaptability in a busy environment.
