Job Description

Westlakes Recruit are currently recruiting for a Project Engineering Manager with a background in the nuclear sector to be engaged on a long-term contract basis; this is a unique opportunity to manage engineering teams on a unique and high-profile Nuclear project that involves the design, construction, and commissioning of nuclear facilities. The role requires a presence on the client's site in Preston roughly 3 days a week with then 2 days remote working.

Key Responsibilities:

• Lead the engineering function, providing technical oversight and direction to ensure project objectives are met on time and within budget.
• Coordinate design, engineering, and safety teams to develop and deliver project requirements.
• Work closely with key stakeholders, including contractors, regulatory bodies, and the client's engineering and safety teams.
• Develop and maintain engineering project schedules, budgets, and resource plans.
• Ensure all engineering activities comply with nuclear safety standards, quality assurance, and regulatory requirements.
• Facilitate design reviews and manage the resolution of technical issues.
• Identify risks and implement strategies to mitigate impacts to project timelines and deliverables.
• Report project status to the project manager, senior leadership and stakeholders.

Requirements:

• Bachelor's degree in Engineering or related field; advanced degree with a professional engineering chartership (CEng).
• Holder of relevant Principal Designer (CDM) qualifications.
• Proven experience as a Project Engineering Manager or similar, ideally within the nuclear or another regulated industry.
• Strong knowledge of nuclear safety and regulatory frameworks in the UK.
• Demonstrated expertise in managing complex engineering projects with multidisciplinary teams.
• Exceptional leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.

Desirable Skills:

• Experience in managing nuclear fuel, or complex nuclear projects.
• Experience managing a team through the full project lifecycle, including design, construction, commissioning and handover.
• Familiarity with Health & Safety legislation, particularly CDM regulations.
• Experienced in designing processes for handling hazardous chemical
• Has experience in HAZOP process.
