About The School:
This SEN school is part of a forward-thinking provider of education and care for children, young people, and adults with special educational needs and disabilities. This SEN School is an independent day school in Ashford, offering specialist education to young people with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) and Social, Emotional, and Mental Health needs (SEMH). All students at the school have an Education, Health, and Care Plan (EHCP).
The Role:
As a SEN Teacher at this outstanding School, you will teach a class of around 8 students, delivering high-quality, engaging, and differentiated lessons based on a broad and balanced curriculum. Your primary focus will be to help each pupil reach their full potential across all areas of learning.
In this role, you’ll be responsible for planning and delivering lessons in accordance with the Department for Education (DfE) guidelines and school policies, as well as managing the day-to-day operations of your classroom. You will also guide and support Teaching Assistants and Higher-Level Teaching Assistants, playing a vital role in their professional development.
You will be expected to implement school policies on safeguarding and equality of opportunity, while closely monitoring the health, well-being, and personal care needs of your pupils. Communication with care, medical, and behavioural support teams is also essential.
Key Responsibilities:
Deliver the curriculum based on the school’s schemes of work.
Plan and deliver engaging, relevant, and structured lessons tailored to a range of abilities and communication needs.
Collaborate with the Head Teacher and leadership team to ensure the successful delivery of the school’s vision and objectives.
Promote the school’s ethos and educational vision to encourage effective teaching, successful learning, and the holistic development of students.
Monitor and evaluate the quality of teaching and learning, ensuring high standards and setting targets for improvement.
Review and improve classroom practices, implementing strategies to address any under-performance.
Contribute to staff recruitment, induction, and retention.
Work collaboratively with staff, parents, carers, and external agencies to support the academic, social, emotional, and cultural well-being of students and their families.
Qualifications & Skills:
Essential: Qualified Teacher Status (QTS)
Desirable: Knowledge and experience of the National Curriculum
Thorough understanding of how to adapt the curriculum for pupils with SEN
Desirable: Experience working with young people with ASD and SEMH
Strong understanding of Safeguarding principles and Child Protection procedures
Ability to build and maintain nurturing relationships with young people
Experience managing a range of learning approaches, particularly for students with anxiety
Knowledge of visual teaching strategies to engage reluctant learners
A flexible, creative approach to teaching
