The Platform Engineering capability within Digital is a growing team of people dedicated to ensuring that the technologies selected and the way that they are implemented meet the business objectives of our clients. There are several disciplines within the Digital Customer Experience team: delivery, business, integration and digital architects and technical managers, and many of our people can perform in more than one of these roles.
Actively working with our clients on digital IaaS, PaaS, SaaS solution strategies, designs, and delivery programmes, transforming their business by delivering solutions and methodologies following best practice.
Implementation and maintenance of platforms and services based on the business requirements, constraints and strategies.
In time you will be able to create, maintain and enhance standards for delivery for business functionality, as well as developing, maintaining, and enhancing design standards and patterns for infrastructure and system components.
Applying technical innovation with contribution towards internal projects and client bids in order to win new business.
Contribute towards the business units' strategy directly through your own personal growth, alongside coaching and mentoring of our junior talent.
The skills we generally look for:
Working in an Agile or DevOps team
Using agile project management tools such as Jira and Azure DevOps
Public cloud providers such as AWS EC2, VPC, CLOUD Formation, IAM, Code commit, Fleet Manager, Cloud Watch, Landing Zone, etc)
Containerisation using Docker, Kubernetes, Helm, EKS & ECR
Continuous Integration systems such as Jenkins, Azure DevOps, CircleCI or Github Actions
Scripting languages, such as Bash and PowerShell
Configuration Management tools such as Ansible
Infrastructure-as-code technologies, such as Terraform, CloudFormation
Building secure applications and infrastructure
Strong communication skills, with the ability to convey and or understand complex technical concepts clearly and concisely
SRE skills including observability and telemetry monitoring
HashiCorp Suite (Packer, Terraform, Vault, Vagrant, Consul
Containerisation using Docker, Kubernetes Helm
Programming skills using languages such as Python, Go & Bash.
Roles & Responsibilities
Continuous feedback loop with the Incident Support team - identifying opportunities for improvement of the platform and a particular focus on self-serviceability for stakeholders.
Troubleshooting and Incident Management: Act as a point of escalation for critical platform issues, conducting root cause analysis, and driving fast resolution during incident
Responding to escalations from Migration Support - investigating issues with the platform having an impact on the rest of an estate and providing a resolution.
Provision of out of hours call-out service for escalations and responding to automated health check alerts.
Providing OS patching support in the form of health checks and operational acceptance.
Liaison with other capabilities and stakeholders on the account - both internal and external providing input to incident, change, release, problem management, security, architecture, and external vendors
