Job Description
Reporting to the Operations Manager, The Transport Shift Manager is responsible for delivering an efficient and cost-effective transport solution. Accommodate the requirements of the Kent Operation including Fleet management and achieve the necessary service levels whilst operating within the legal limits of the industry, through close interaction with the Management team.
You will lead and manage an evolving Transport Team via the Transport Supervisors whilst promoting internal development, succession, and progression.
This is a 12 month fixed term contract.
Working hours: Monday to Friday days, 07.00-17.00
Salary: £40,000 - £45,000 per annum (DOE)
Key Duties of a Transport Shift Manager:
Manage the control and performance of the Operation and teams to ensure continuity and efficiency in line with all legal requirements and in line with the weekly P&L.
Ensure the transport fleet and all assets are operated in a commercially viable way at all times and in line with DVSA regulations e.g. fleet inspection cycles and fleet record management.
Review daily KPI’s along with forward planning and analysis to ensure the lowest cost and maintain required service levels at all times.
Ensure transport operations, practices and procedures are managed in line with the company’s Health & Safety policy and other statutory compliance, including legal compliance.
Manage driver performance, reviewing regularly to ensure they meet the requirements of the operation.
Control of driver’s hours, ensuring optimum utilisation within the restrictions of tachograph law/drivers hour’s restrictions and monitoring all FW compliance management systems.
Manage fleet requirements to ensure appropriate mix of equipment to suit the needs of the operation and ensure fleet is managed to the legal requirements.
Manage driver headcount and shift patterns, reviewing periodically to ensure they meet the requirements of the operation.
Review agency driver needs on a weekly basis, ensuring sufficient cover is in place whilst maintaining cost control.
Control of Operations staff rotas to ensure optimum resource allocation..
Organisation of required driver CPC training through driver trainer reports.
Delivering effective training, coaching and development of the drivers through the driver trainers and in conjunction with the DDM team.
Qualifications
Proven experience of direct people management.
Experience of vehicle / operating within the FMCG distribution industry.
Experience of DVSA compliance regulations including OCRS and Earned Recognition.
Third party P&L experience and management.
Experience of telematics and added value components.
Experience of running a fleet in its entirety.
Strong written and verbal communication skills that have been used to support a customer focused operation.
Experience in the use of Microsoft office suite of products mainly word, excel and outlook.
Operator license regulations and DVSA compliance regulations.
Sound geographical knowledge.
Driver hours, working time and tachograph regulations.
CPC is desirble but not essential.
