Learning Support Assistant – Resource Base (Deaf and Hard of Hearing Students)

Location: Winchester, Hampshire

Contract: Hourly contract basis, £11.85 per hour (paid PAYE and weekly)

Salary: £17,774 - £18,012 (Actual Salary)

Are you passionate about making a difference in the lives of students with hearing loss? We are looking for a dedicated Learning Support Assistant to join the Resource Base at a school in Winchester. In this role, you will support students who are oral communicators, providing in-class support and modifying the curriculum to ensure all students can reach their full potential.

As a Learning Support Assistant, your responsibilities will include:

* Supporting students in mainstream classes and Resource Base lessons.

* Assisting in the maintenance of hearing aids and cochlear processors.

* Providing support during school trips and exams.

* Collaborating with the Teacher of the Deaf to monitor student progress and review their Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCPs).

* Offering guidance and training to teachers and other staff on supporting deaf students.

Person Specification:

* Strong empathy, resilience, and initiative.

* Good literacy and numeracy skills (GCSE or equivalent in English and Maths).

* Previous experience in a school or support role is advantageous, but not essential.

* BSL Level 1 or willingness to learn British Sign Language (BSL) would be a bonus.

While previous experience in a school setting is preferred, it is not essential. More importantly, we are looking for someone who is empathetic, resilient, and dedicated to student success. The ability to learn British Sign Language (BSL) is desirable, and support will be provided to develop these skills.
