Learning Support Assistant / Teaching Assistant – Primary Age (SEMH School)
Location: Wolverhampton
Contract Type: Long-term, with potential for permanency
About the Role:
We are working with a dedicated SEMH (Social, Emotional, and Mental Health) school seeking a compassionate and experienced Learning Support Assistant or Teaching Assistant to join our team. The successful candidate will work with primary-aged children who have additional needs, providing tailored support in their learning, emotional well-being, and social development. This is a rewarding opportunity to make a positive impact on the lives of young people with complex needs.
Key Responsibilities:
* Provide 1:1 and small group support to children with SEMH needs
* Assist in the implementation of individualized learning plans
* Support children in accessing the curriculum and managing challenging behaviours
* Foster positive relationships with pupils to build trust and promote emotional well-being
* Collaborate with teachers and other staff to create a nurturing and inclusive learning environment
* Help manage classroom activities and ensure a safe and structured environment for learning
* Work closely with families and external professionals to support pupils’ development
The Ideal Candidate Will Have:
* Experience working with children with additional needs, ideally in an educational or social care setting
* A compassionate, patient, and resilient approach to supporting children
* Excellent communication skills and the ability to work well as part of a team
* An understanding of SEMH and how it impacts children’s learning and behaviour
* Relevant qualifications (e.g., Teaching Assistant qualification, Level 2/3 in Supporting Teaching and Learning, or equivalent) would be beneficial but not essential
* A positive, proactive attitude and a commitment to making a difference
