Hunter Philips is currently seeking a Senior Protection Maintenance Engineer to implement maintenance and commissioning policies on complex protection schemes across our client’s network and power generation assets.
This is a site-based role, working on a national basis throughout Ireland and attendance will also be required at the client’s offices in Dublin. Starting in February 2025 on a 12-month contract, working hours are Monday-Friday 8 hours per day.
Responsibilities:
* Assess site safety before commencing commissioning or maintenance activities and coordinate schedules with site staff.
* Commission primary, secondary, and associated equipment within Transmission/Distribution Networks and Power Stations.
* Undertake maintenance testing of protection relays and related circuits.
* Verify the functionality of protection schemes and ensure adherence to approved design standards.
* Respond promptly to critical system faults and mobilise as required.
* Conduct detailed fault investigations and provide specialist protection support to network and power station operators.
Requirements:
* At least six years of relevant experience in the electricity generation and/or HV transmission sectors.
* 3rd Level engineering qualification or equivalent work experience.
* Comprehensive knowledge and experience of operational procedures and the functioning of substations and/or power stations.
* Strong understanding of typical protection philosophies used in power stations and transmission networks.
* Thorough expertise in schematics, cubicle wiring, and functional testing techniques.
* Proven ability to deliver commissioning and maintenance activities in live operational HV substations and/or power stations.
* Proficient in using Omicron test equipment, particularly for developing test plans for protection relay testing.
* Competent with software applications for communicating with various types of protection relays.
* Self-motivated and able to work independently without direct supervision.
* Demonstrates a high level of commitment and flexibility.
* A valid driving licence is essential due to the requirement to travel to sites.
