Job Title: 1:1 SEN Teaching Assistant (LSA) – Year 1

Location: Brent, North West London

Contract: Full Time

Daily Rate: £85 to £115 per day depending on experience

Start Date: Immediate

About the Role:

We are currently recruiting on behalf of a welcoming primary school that is looking for a compassionate and experienced 1:1 Special Educational Needs (SEN) Teaching Assistant (LSA) to support a Year 1 pupil with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). The child, who has recently joined the school, requires dedicated, tailored support to help them thrive within the classroom environment.

The successful candidate will work closely with the pupil on a 1:1 basis, assisting them with communication, emotional regulation, and accessing their learning. This role is ideal for someone who is experienced in supporting children with ASD and can provide personalised care, including visual and verbal support for the pupil, who speaks some words in Arabic.

Key Responsibilities:

* Provide 1:1 support to a Year 1 pupil with ASD during lessons, helping them engage with the curriculum.

* Offer emotional support, particularly in helping the child detach from their mother, who is currently on-site.

* Use visual aids and communication strategies to assist the child’s understanding, as the child speaks some Arabic and requires extra support.

* Support with personal care needs, including assistance with toilet training.

* Work closely with the class teacher, SENCO, and other staff to ensure a coordinated approach to the child’s needs.

The Ideal Candidate:

* Experience working with children with ASD or other special educational needs.

* Knowledge of visual communication strategies and a flexible approach to supporting diverse learning styles.

* Patient, understanding, and emotionally supportive, with the ability to remain calm in challenging situations.

* A proactive and adaptable approach to working with children with complex needs.

* Ability to work as part of a team, collaborating with teachers, parents, and other professionals.
