Senior Civil Design Engineer

Civil/Structural design support for Heathrow Airport and DNO schemes

Duration of contract:

6 month (extendable to 12 months).

Location as and when required:

London (Elephant and Castle) and Heathrow Airport.

Purpose of service (i.e. project details)

The selected candidate will be joining the engineering design team to support the production of civil and structural drawings, calculations and reports for the new and existing substations projects planned to be developed during 2025/26

Deliverables to be achieved during duration of contract:

Civil/Structural Design packages will consist of:

• Survey Specifications (e.g. Topo, GRP, G.I).
• Concept Design (e.g. layout, sections, cable routes, Temporary CDM Layout).
• Detail Design (e.g. Drawings/Specifications/Calculations)
• Approved for Construction Drawings
• Review of designs put together by colleagues and/or external consultants
• Milestones to be accomplished

The job holder will

Produce civil and structural designs for substations, including steel frames, reinforced concrete, cable routes, supporting structures for outdoor equipment, fence systems, secondary oil containment, building services, drainage systems within substation compounds.
Provide technical liaison with suppliers and clients for the successful delivery of projects.
Strong team player in a dedicated and interdisciplinary team of designers.
Communicate confidently with clients, contractors, consultants and team members.

Principal accountabilities:

• Resolve civil engineering issues and provide a sound understanding of substation standards and policies.
• Liaise with design and operational teams to ensure a smooth process from concept design to the completion of detail designs issued for construction.
• Work with civil, structural, electrical engineers, quantity surveyors and CAD technicians.
• Manage and communicate packages of work for the CAD team to develop.
• Ability to work with external engineering organisations and clients.
• Ability to work independently and unsupervised set own targets, identify and implement innovative design cost saving solutions.
• The successful candidate shall be able to approve and sign off designs and reports.

Skills, Qualifications and Experience:

• Demonstrable track record producing civil and structural designs for substation projects in England.
• Chartered engineer or close to become a member of the Institution of Civil Engineers.
• Strong knowledge of AutoCAD. Revit and Robot will be beneficial.
• Proficient in the use of MS Office suite, e.g. Excel, Word, PowerPoint.
• Strong written and oral communication skills.
