Overall Job Purpose:
We are looking for an enthusiastic and energetic Asbestos Surveyor to join Corby Borough Council’s Asbestos Management Team based at the Fleming Road Depot to undertake asbestos survey work.
The Asbestos Team ensures that the Council complies with relevant requirements under the Control of Asbestos Regulations 2012 and the Health & Safety at Work Act 1974. The team also provides advice to other council departments on asbestos management.
Reporting directly to the Team Leader – Compliance and working closely with the Asbestos Works Co-ordinator, your role will be to carry out asbestos surveys, (Management, Refurbishment and Demolition) in Corby Councils Domestic, Commercial and Culture and Leisure properties.
You will need to input data, prepare reports and maintain detailed records, so IT skills are essential, although training will be given. You will have a very good knowledge of asbestos legislation and associated guidance as well as experience of asbestos surveys and laboratory protocols.
Main Duties and Responsibilities:

Carry out management and demolition/refurbishment asbestos surveys of any type of property within the council’s property portfolio. In addition to site works there is a requirement to write reports and carry out quality assurance works.
Carry out ad-hoc bulk sampling works as required.
Ensure that all work is in full compliance with the requirements of relevant asbestos legislation and guidelines and in accordance with any professional institutions.
Supporting the asbestos team and other council departments through advice, feedback on survey processes and direct contribution to management and team meetings, briefings and correspondence on a monthly or ad-hoc basis as appropriate.
Liaise with other departments throughout the council, during all stages of the asbestos survey and report writing process.
Liaise with other departments on all asbestos remediation works.
Reviewing all documentation associated with the remediation process and carrying out quality assurance works when required.
Undertake project management and audit of asbestos removal processes including Licensed and Non Licensed Works.
Deputise for the Asbestos Works Co-ordinator as and when required.
Carry out all responsibilities with regard to the Council’s Equalities & Diversity and Customer care policies.
To comply with all Health & Safety at Work, CDM and Asbestos regulations as required by legislation.
Provide technical support to trades people and contractors.
Promote good practice with other departments and partners of the Council.
Any other duties commensurate with the grade as reasonably required of the post-holder following consultation.

It is the practice of this Authority periodically to examine job descriptions, update them and ensure they relate to the job performed, or to incorporate any proposed changes. This procedure will be conducted by the appropriate manager in consultation with the post holder. In these circumstances it will be the aim to reach agreement on reasonable changes, but if agreement is not possible management reserves the right to make changes to your job description following consultation.
FLEXIBILITY CLAUSE
Other duties and responsibilities express and implied which arise from the nature and character of the post within the department (or section) mentioned above or in a comparable post in any of the Organisation’s other sections or departments. May be required to attend meetings in and out of normal working hours with senior managers, councillors and tenants associations to represent the Councils corporate initiatives as directed by the depot senior management.
