CWS Health is seeking a local contract Ophthalmic Assistant for a local contract job in Lake Katrine, New York.
Job Description & RequirementsPosition Overview:
Under close supervision, the Certified Ophthalmic Assistant/Technician will assist ophthalmologists and other technical support personnel in performing diagnostic tests necessary for evaluating patient eye conditions. This role involves performing basic ophthalmic testing procedures, such as visual acuity, tonometry, lensometry, motility, pupil assessment, visual fields, and refraction. The C.O.A/C.O.T may also administer dilation or anesthetic drops and assist with various clerical, stocking, and maintenance functions.
Essential Functions:
Patient Care Assistance:
Perform preliminary screening examinations under supervision, including visual acuity, history taking, tonometry, lensometry, motility, pupil assessment, visual fields, and basic color vision tests.
Assist with refraction procedures as directed.
Examine the cornea, lens, and anterior chamber of the eye using a slit lamp, noting variations from normal.
Administer dilation or anesthetic drops as needed.
Assist with patient contact lens insertion and removal training.
Stocking and Maintenance:
Maintain the physical environment of exam and procedure rooms.
Clean and stock rooms daily, ensuring an appropriate supply of sample drug medications as needed.
Assist with ordering medical and office supplies.
Prepare contaminated instruments and equipment for sterilization.
Assist in the calibration, maintenance, and monitoring of equipment.
Clerical Functions:
Assist with scheduling appointments and screening phone calls.
Answer phones, take messages, and relay to the appropriate individuals.
Under the physician's direction, may contact pharmacies for prescription refills and record prescriptions in the patient's chart.
File test results, forms, and letters into medical records.

Additional Duties:
Perform other duties as assigned incidental to the work described herein.
Education:
High school diploma or equivalent.
Experience:
Certification as a Certified Ophthalmic Assistant by the Joint Commission on Allied Health Personnel in Ophthalmology (JCAHPO).
Minimum of 2 years of directly related experience working with an ophthalmologist.
Degrees, Licensure, and/or Certification:
Certification as a Certified Ophthalmic Assistant (C.O.A) by JCAHPO is required.
Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required.
