Princess Royal Hospital (PRH), Telford, TF1 6TF / Royal Shrewsbury Hospital (RSH) wards and community teams

3-month temporary assignment (with potential for extension)

37.5 hours per week (5 shifts of 7.5 hours)

We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Band 7 Speech and Language Therapist (SLT) to join our inpatient and community services. This role involves providing expert assessment, diagnosis, and treatment to patients with complex communication and swallowing difficulties across both hospital and community settings. You will be working within a multidisciplinary team to support patients' recovery and quality of life, ensuring the highest standards of care.

Candidates must be registered with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) and have extensive experience in managing caseloads within both inpatient and community environments. Dysphagia training and an Enhanced DBS are essential for this position.

• Conduct comprehensive assessments of patients with communication and swallowing difficulties (dysphagia).
• Develop and implement individualized therapy plans to address complex needs.
• Work collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams, including medical staff, nursing, occupational therapists, and psychologists, to provide holistic care.
• Provide expert advice and education to patients, carers, and healthcare staff on speech and language therapy strategies.
• Manage a diverse and complex caseload with autonomy, ensuring timely documentation of assessments, care plans, and outcomes.
• Participate in case conferences, care planning meetings, and reviews.
• Supervise and mentor junior staff or students, supporting their professional development.

• Clinical expertise in assessing and treating complex communication and swallowing disorders, including dysphagia.
• Experience working across both hospital wards and community-based services.
• Knowledge and experience of working with patients with neurological conditions (e.g., stroke, traumatic brain injury, progressive neurological conditions).
• Experience managing caseloads in both mental health and physical health settings.
• Strong teamwork and collaboration within multidisciplinary teams.
• Previous experience in NHS systems and service delivery is desirable.

• Degree in Speech and Language Therapy (or equivalent).
• HCPC (Health and Care Professions Council) registration.
• Dysphagia training and competency.
• Enhanced DBS check (required).
• Evidence of continued professional development (CPD) relevant to the role.
