Title: Locum Social Worker – Child Protection Team

Introduction:

Sheldon Phillips is looking for an experienced Social Worker to join the Child Protection Team in the London Borough of Barnet. This is a fantastic opportunity to work within a well-structured and supportive team, managing complex cases while benefiting from flexible working arrangements.

About the Role:

As a Social Worker in Barnet’s Child Protection Team, you will be responsible for safeguarding children and ensuring their welfare is prioritised. Your key duties will include:

Managing a caseload of children subject to Child Protection Plans, Child in Need Plans, and care proceedings.

Undertaking Section 47 investigations and risk assessments to identify appropriate interventions.

Completing comprehensive assessments, including Child and Family Assessments, within statutory timeframes.

Preparing high-quality reports for Child Protection Conferences, court proceedings, and Looked After Child (LAC) reviews.

Engaging with children and families to provide direct support and ensure their voices are heard in decision-making.

Developing and implementing safety plans and intervention strategies in partnership with multi-agency professionals.

Attending strategy meetings, legal planning meetings, and case conferences as required.

Working collaboratively with schools, health services, and other agencies to ensure a holistic approach to child protection.

Maintaining accurate case records in line with statutory requirements and local authority policies.

Participating in reflective supervision and team meetings to ensure best practices are upheld.

This role requires two days a week in the office, providing a balance of flexibility and team collaboration.

About You:

To be successful in this role, you must have:

A recognised social work qualification (Degree/Diploma in Social Work).

Current Social Work England registration.

At least two years of post-qualifying experience in frontline child protection social work.

Strong knowledge of relevant legislation, including the Children Act 1989 and Working Together to Safeguard Children.

Excellent assessment, analytical, and report-writing skills.

Ability to work effectively under pressure while managing competing priorities.

Experience working within a multi-agency framework.
