Job Description

A freelance opportunity, inside IR35, exists for a proactive and skilled procurement professional to join the team, on a large infrastructure project, to play a key part in managing of material procurement, supplier relationships and cost efficiencies across the projects. Your ability to balance divisional and local procurement needs will be crucial in ensuring successful project outcomes.

Your responsibilities will include -

• Implement and manage the Material Procurement Plan from tender stage to project close-out.
• Handle supplier negotiations, ensuring cost-effective procurement and value engineering solutions.
• Report procurement gains against budget allowances.
• Oversee purchase requisitions and orders using SAP MM.
• Support procurement targets, deadlines, and compliance with business processes.
• Develop supplier relationships in collaboration with operations, commercial, and estimating teams.
• Monitor supplier financial health and manage performance issues.
• Engage with H&S, Sustainability, and Social Value teams.
• Ensure prompt payment and efficient supply chain management.

Requirements for this post include

• An experienced procurement professional who is commercially minded, analytically strong, and confident in driving procurement efficiencies.
• Strong stakeholder management and relationship-building skills at all levels.
• Proven experience in procurement within civil engineering or construction for a tier one Civil engineering contractor.
• Extensive experience working within a joint venture/stakeholder project
• Good understanding of construction materials, vendors, and supply chains.
• Ability to balance strategic and local procurement requirements for mutual benefit.
• Willingness to travel regionally as required
• A relevant degree or equivalent experience coupled with CIPS qualification (or working towards it)
• Strong understanding of supply chains, including materials and subcontracting.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team.
• Strong problem-solving skills and ability to manage priorities effectively.
• IT proficiency (SAP MM experience is a plus).
