Job Description

Our client, a leader in the Defence & Security sector, is currently seeking a Principal Optical Engineer to join their team on a contract basis. This role will be based in Basildon and supports the research, design, and development of next-generation InfraRed (IR) Products.

• Deliver support to the research, design, development, and manufacturing phases of the product lifecycle
• Contribute to system architecture definition, specification, and development of lens design
• Undertake analyses and performance simulations for optical solutions
• Support integration and testing of optical systems
• Deliver solutions that consider design for manufacture, assembly, and test
• Liaise with the customer community and engage regularly with the external supply chain
• Work within a multi-disciplinary Integrated Project Team (IPT)

• Experience in optics and optical engineering within the Defence & Security sector
• Strong understanding of fibre optics and InfraRed (IR) technology
• Proficiency in system architecture definition and lens design
• Ability to conduct detailed analysis and performance simulations
• Experience with integration and testing of optical systems
• Understanding of design for manufacture, assembly, and test principles
• Excellent communication skills and ability to liaise with customers and external suppliers
• Security clearance (SC and UKEO) required

• 6-month contract
• Full-time, 37-hour standard workweek
• Onsite work required
• Overtime may be approved by the project team
