Job Title: Design Technology Teacher KS3 to KS4
Location: Pontefract
Salary Range: £140 £190 per day (Depending on experience)
Start Date: Eastern Term of 2025
Contract Type: Day-to-day/Long-term, Part-time/Full-time

GSL Education are seeking an experienced and enthusiastic Design Technology (DT) Teacher to join a forward-thinking secondary school in Pontefract, teaching Key Stages 3 and 4.

Role Overview

As a Design Technology (DT) Teacher, you will play a crucial role in enhancing students practical skills, problem-solving abilities and creative thinking. You will be responsible for delivering high-quality lessons that cover a range of disciplines, including Product Design, Resistant Materials, Graphics and Engineering Principles.

Key Responsibilities:

• Plan and deliver engaging and interactive Design Technology lessons that align with the national curriculum for KS3 and KS4.
• Introduce students to design concepts, materials, tools and manufacturing techniques, ensuring hands-on learning experiences.
• Inspire students to develop practical skills in woodworking, metalwork, electronics, CAD/CAM and textiles.
• Support students in designing, prototyping and evaluating their projects, fostering creativity and innovation.
• Prepare students for GCSE examinations, offering tailored guidance and interventions where required.
• Utilise modern teaching strategies and technologies to engage students in the subject.
• Work collaboratively with colleagues to enhance the Design Technology curriculum and develop cross-disciplinary projects.
• Uphold school policies and safeguarding standards, ensuring a safe and supportive learning environment.

Design Technology Teacher requirements:

• A qualified teacher status (QTS) and must hold a PGCE in Design Technology, Engineering, Product Design, or a related discipline.
• Proven experience teaching Design Technology at KS3 and KS4, with a strong understanding of the curriculum.
• Expertise in at least one specialism, such as Resistant Materials, Graphics, Engineering, or Textiles.
• Strong practical skills with the ability to demonstrate techniques using a range of tools and machinery.
• Excellent classroom management skills, fostering an engaging and disciplined learning environment.
• Passion for encouraging students creativity, problem-solving and technical proficiency.
• Have an enhanced DBS registered to the update service (or be willing to apply for one).
• Be able to provide a ten-year career history with relevant reference details covering the last two years, including your most recent place of academic employment.
