Thriving Pupil Referral Unit (PRU) in London Borough of Lewisham is seeking a dedicated and experienced 1:1 Behaviour Support / Behaviour Mentor to join their Pupil Referral Unit (PRU) in the London Borough of Lewisham. This would suit someone looking for either a PT or FT position, however you must be available to start immediately!
The successful 1:1 Behaviour Support / Behaviour Mentor will work with students on a 1:1 basis and in small groups to support their social, emotional, and mental health (SEMH) needs, including those with Autism, ADHD, and complex behavioural needs. The 1:1 Behaviour Support / Behaviour Mentor role requires a proactive individual with a strong understanding of behaviour management and classroom support.
You will be supporting in the classroom and able to successfully build a strong rapport with children. Additionally, you can de-escalate challenging behaviour in a calm but assertive way.
Class sizes are small, typically up to 5 children per class. Each class has a minimum of 3 children per class.
Proven experience working with children and young people with SEMH, Autism, ADHD, and complex behavioural needs.
Strong understanding of behaviour management techniques and interventions.
Ability to build positive relationships with students, staff, and external agencies.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Patience, resilience, and a calm approach to challenging situations.
Relevant qualifications in education, psychology, social work, or a related field are desirable.
Experience working in a PRU or similar setting is advantageous.
Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people.
Provide 1:1 and small group support to students with SEMH, Autism, ADHD, and complex needs.
Implement behaviour management strategies to promote a positive learning environment.
Develop and maintain effective relationships with students to encourage engagement and participation.
Work collaboratively with teachers, support staff, and external agencies to develop and implement individualised support plans.
Monitor and record student progress, adapting strategies as necessary to meet individual needs.
Assist in the development of personalised learning programs tailored to each student's specific needs and abilities.
Support classroom activities and manage challenging behaviour using appropriate interventions.
Promote social and emotional development through targeted activities and interventions.
Maintain a safe and inclusive environment for all students.
Attend training sessions and professional development opportunities to stay current with best practices in behaviour support.
