We’re looking for passionate individuals with personal experience of multiple disadvantage, for example homelessness, addiction, criminal justice and mental ill health to come and join us and make a difference to the way we do things. If you believe that people should have a say in their own support and that they should be at the front of making meaningful change then this could be the traineeship for you.

About the role
The GROW Traineeship offers people with personal experience of multiple disadvantage (including but not limited to; the criminal justice system, mental ill-health and substance misuse) access to paid employment, training and personal development opportunities. This traineeship is 12 months long and delivered in partnership with akt – a charity which supports lgbtq+ young people aged 16-25 who are facing, or experiencing, homelessness or living in a hostile environment. We support young people into homes and employment, education or training, in a welcoming and open environment that celebrates lgbtq+ identities.
As part of your placement at akt, you will be supported through training, supervision and a wide range of development opportunities and you will have the opportunity to shape services using your experiences to bring about change. With the guidance of a Senior Caseworker, you will learn how to identify young people’s support needs and how to develop and implement a plan together. You will also assist with research and signposting young people to access specialist support.
We are looking for people who are passionate about the opportunity to use their own life experiences to help make positive change for others in Manchester. You’ll also need a commitment to lgbtq+ and equality and a zero tolerance approach to discrimination and exclusion. Good communication skills and the ability to make people feel heard will also be essential. Basic computer skills, e.g. word processing, the internet and email would be useful, but support can be provided
