Laboratory Technician Chemist

Our client, a leading manufacturer in the chemical sector, require a Laboratory Chemist/Technician to start ASAP.

This is a contract role which will last for a minimum of 8 months and is based in the Merseyside area near Kirkby/Knowsley.

Pay will be dependant on experience but be approximately £13.50/hr PAYE (26k per annum). They may pay more for the someone more experienced, possibly up to the equivalent of 30k per annum.

You will be involved in carrying out laboratory analytical testing under the supervision of more senior team members.

Education, Experience, Knowledge and Skills Required:

*A Chemistry or related degree level qualification.
*Experience of performing basic tests in a laboratory environment.
*Knowledge of the appropriate analytical instrumentation including ICP-OES and Ion Chromatography.
*Skilled in the use of Microsoft Office packages. Experience with StarLIMS and Chromeleon software an advantage.
*Communication skills, both written and verbal.
*Analytical skills.
*Problem solving skills.
*Ability to follow written and verbal instructions.
*Flexible in their approach and willing to learn and develop.
*Ability to work safely and ensure their peers work safely.

Duties / Responsibilities:

*Under direct supervision, conduct routine chemical and physical analyses by running tests, troubleshooting processes or procedures in support of the technical support teams.
*Assist senior personnel in providing results and analysis.
*Communicate results to supervisor in a detailed manner.
*Carry out small projects as assigned by manager or senior member of the team.
*Ordering of laboratory equipment and ensuring stock levels are kept up to date.
*Carry out routine maintenance of laboratory equipment.
*Ensure housekeeping is up to date.
*Handle special projects, as assigned.
*Any other duties as required.
