Priority Waste Operative – Antrim We are currently recruiting for a priority waste operative with the local council in Antrim. Your main job role will be to remove and transport priority waste to the designated transfer or disposal site. Carry out priority cleansing duties. Your role responsibilities will be; • To safely collect and load priority waste, as identified by management, for transport to the designated transfer or disposal site. This includes the cleansing of priority waste as required. • To safely carry out priority cleansing, as identified by management, such as street cleansing, land clearance, street washing, street furniture washing, gum removal, graffiti and fly poster removal/obliteration and any other priority cleansing duties which may arise. • To use any equipment and associated materials that is required in the priority waste cleansing process. Ensuring the safe storage and security of such equipment, that is, hand truck, strapping equipment, power wash, gum machine and generator. • To separate the various types of waste and dispose or store according to management instructions. • To undertake other duties such as refuse collection, recycling, street sweeping and associated functions as required. • To carry out general driver/labourer or operative duties in standard waste collection and street cleansing operations as and when required. Applicants must have at least six months’ relevant experience of each of the following: (1) cleaning an outdoor area; (2) dealing with members of the public, in a face-to-face environment; and (3) dealing with health and safety issues, including the safe use of machinery and/or equipment. Park Attendant – Antrim We are recruiting for a park attendant role within the local council in the Antrim area. Your main role will to be responsible to the Community Parks Manager through the Community Parks Supervisor or other appropriate officer, to undertake work particularly the security of properties and their correct use by members of the public in parks, cemeteries and playing fields for which Belfast City Council has control either individually or as part of a team. Summary of responsibilities and personal duties • To carry out general security including the opening and closing of gates, the cleaning of buildings and the operation of all security alarms when required. • To maintain the orderly condition of grounds, such as litter and rubbish clearance, sweeping and general tidiness. • To maintain orderly conduct by the public and prevent misuse and nuisance to other users and adjacent residents. • To ensure general safety and give guidance, dealing with any complaint in relation to the relevant site. • To ensure that measures are taken to deal with vandalism and anti-social behaviour in the parks, including liaison with the Police Service for Northern Ireland (PSNI) where such action is appropriate. • To maintain and enforce council Bye-Laws. • To issue tickets and collect cash. • To carry out soil cultivation, site preparation and constructional labouring. • To cut grass and hedges. • To use powered hand tools and light plant. • To load, unload and move equipment and materials, such as mowers, barrows, plants, soil, fertilisers, horticultural tools and sundries. It is essential a successful candidate has : Experience in a) undertaking gardening duties including cutting grass and using powered hand tools; b) caring for a building and its contents, ensuring a high standard of cleanliness, maintenance and repair and taking practical steps to ensure the risk of damage or theft is minimised; c) ensuring all cleaning, maintenance and repair tools, equipment and chemicals are safely used and stored in accordance with health and safety regulations; and d) dealing with enquiries from members of the public, by telephone or in person. Pool LGV Driver / Loader – Belfast We are currently recruiting a Pool LGV Driver/Loader in Belfast within the local council. Your role will be to undertake a variety of duties connected with driving a range of vehicles, supervising operatives, undertaking street cleansing and the collection of waste and recyclable materials from a variety of locations, for delivery to a reception point. Duties will be undertaken within specified area or areas as appropriate and incorporate the use of the full range of refuse collection containers, associated collection equipment, information and telecommunications technology. You will also be required to undertake other Refuse Collection or Street Cleansing duties as required, when not involved in driving duties. Your main responsibilities will be • To drive and be responsible for any allocated vehicle and any authorised passengers. Also to ensure that the vehicle is not overloaded and to safely manoeuvre the vehicle on the daily route. • To carry out refuse collection and recycling duties, with due regard to property and with minimum disturbance to members of the public, hence bins and other items should be emptied and returned to their proper location undamaged and with lids closed. Appropriate mechanical aids should be used and all spillages should be cleared up and gates closed after collection has been completed. • To empty all types of receptacle and lift all loose waste, as required, ensuring the safe collection and disposal of waste. To undertake any inspection process required to ensure that materials presented for recycling are not contaminated by non-appropriate materials. This will include both pre and post emptying of the receptacle. • To complete all daily record sheets – mileage, fuel, defects, and other documents, and return them to the Assistant Manager (Priority Waste and Transport) daily. • To use radio and other telecommunication • To assist with snow clearance and gritting of footways as required. All applicants must: a) have a full, current ‘C’ category driving licence which enables them to drive in Northern Ireland (a Large Goods Vehicle (LGV) will be provided for the purposes of fulfilling the duties of this post); b) have a full, current Driver Certificate of Professional Competence (CPC) qualification; and • be able to demonstrate, by providing personal and specific examples on the application form, at least one year’s relevant work experience of each of the following: c) driving a LGV in a commercial or public sector environment; and d) dealing directly with members of the public, in person. Security Operative – Belfast We are currently recruiting a Security Operative in Belfast within a local council. Your main responsibilities will be to ensure the physical integrity of all council properties, and that access to these properties is effectively controlled. Monitoring and maintaining the council’s CCTV and alarm monitoring systems and infrastructure in order to protect the security and integrity of valuable council built assets. You will be assisting visitors to the council’s buildings in terms of finding and accessing services, and providing a first point of contact outside normal business hours, protecting against loss to the council through fire, flood, fraud, theft, criminal or malicious damage and other forms of loss or waste; and, preventing, deterring and/or detecting crime or anti social behaviour on council property and the promotion of a safe, harmonious and welcoming environment for Members, staff and visitors. You will be; 1. Ensuring that access to assigned council properties is properly controlled and monitored and that the physical integrity of all council built assets is maximised. 2. Patrolling all assigned premises, perimeters and grounds, and to using all associated systems, hardware or equipment as directed and to record maintenance issues, potential breaches of security or unusual occurrences in the relevant records and log books in a professional manner and in sufficient detail. 3. Monitoring and recording CCTV images as directed, keeping the CCTV infrastructure under continuous review to ensure that it is serviceable and reporting any hardware, software or communications faults to line management. 4. Providing an initial, proactive point of contact and information for members of the public accessing council properties and implementing all customer-management policies developed by the unit in this regard 5. Carrying out searches of people and vehicles seeking entry to council property if so directed, and to keep all associated records as required. 6. Routinely work at all council sites and locations as directed on the basis of the rotas developed by the section from time to time, and to participate in the operation of any pool arrangements. It is essential that all candidates ; (a) possess current, subsisting licences issued by the Security Industry Authority (SIA) for both Door Supervision/Security Patrolling activities and Public Space Surveillance (CCTV) activity; and • are able to demonstrate on the application form, by providing personal and specific examples, at least one year’s relevant experience, gained in the workplace, in at least two of the following four areas: (b) manned guarding and patrolling; (c) access control; (d) CCTV and alarm monitoring; and, or (e) dealing with members of the public, in person. Gardener - scale 4 - Antrim Gardener required for local council to contribute to the maintenance of a full range of duties in public parks, gardens and open spaces in the Antrim area. The role responsibilities will be to assist in carrying out ground maintenance duties including grass cutting, hedge trimming, clearing leaves and litter, constructional labouring work, erection and dismantling of sports equipment, cleaning e.g. council buildings such as changing rooms and toilets in all weathers.
