INTERIM Production Manager – Food Manufacturing

Shift: Twilights 5.15pm-1.30am

This position is responsible for the leadership of a specific area of this large food production facility; ensuring products are produced in proper quantities, meet established quality standards at the lowest possible cost, and are available for shipment to the market place as scheduled. You will be responsible for leading Team Leaders and their sizeable teams to perform to the best of their abilities.
Production Managers at this site are responsible for leading the Operations team of a business unit, to achieve the profit and performance targets set by the Operations Manager. Drive continuous improvement through maximising operational effectiveness and efficiencies whilst reducing costs through the development of people, processes and systems.
Sets improvement strategies for own business unit KPI’s, enhancing the group mission, vision and value as set out in the Plan to Lead. Build and foster enhanced teamwork within a specific area
Devise effective organisational structure based on delivering financial and operational targets, objectives and associated KPI’s.
Provide direct leadership and guidance to the Production Shift Leaders, assist in establishing goals and objectives that improve production efficiency.
Support the Senior Operations Manager in continuing efforts to develop and implement a Human Resources Management plan that addresses manpower planning and training at all levels. Responsible for motivating, encouraging, and training members of the production team.
Control a favourable safety program through training, inspection, meetings, etc., to achieve improved safety awareness among employees.
Provide direction in conjunction with the Maintenance Managers for properly maintaining and operating all equipment. Make suggestions for mechanical revisions to achieve optimum quality products.
Communicate with the Production Scheduler and Purchasing Department to review the scheduled plant production, update any completed items, and set priorities for the following weeks.
Coordinated the efforts of all production departments to effectively accomplish objectives.
Identify and respond to problems, and work toward resolutions in the most expedient and practical way.
Develop and effectively use reporting systems to inform operating and managerial personnel of the factory performance on a timely basis.
Ensure compliance to Good Manufacturing Practices by all personnel, including full-time employees, visitors, temporary employees and contractors.
The incumbent, as a member of the Site Manager’s staff, must demonstrate managerial ability amongst peers, exhibit a high level of employee relations skill and credibility, and be able to successfully interact with individuals from varying work disciplines and cultural backgrounds.
Will adhere to safety program and participate in monthly behavioural observation program.
Driving site continuous improvement programmes
To develop and work as part of a site operations team to deliver site operational objectives.
To implement process KPI’s to exceed customer score card.
Lead by example in promoting a harmonious working environment in line with the Company’s policies in Equal Opportunities, Harassment and code of ethics.
Maintain and uphold all aspects of Company HR policies in particular standards of discipline, communication and industrial relations.
Develop, train, coach and motivate the Unit team and operatives, in conjunction with the HR department and carry out annual performance reviews.
Optimise labour utilisation by reducing absenteeism, labour turnover and holiday planning.
Advise or recommend any improvement to work methods which could improve productivity, performance or economy of operation.
Responsible for all activities within the respective business unit across your shift.
Is sufficiently flexible in terms of hours of work to support and cover his or her team.
Contribute to that department / add value be developing requisite skills in this area in line with competency framework.
Be conscious of public relations and the image of the Company such that the operation is managed to uphold the presentation of the Company to visitors, customers and general public.
Attend / chair team meetings as required and have clear strategies for good communication between management and operatives to help maintain good industrial relations and improve overall effectiveness of the business.
Optimise staffing levels needed to run efficiently and deliver strategic profit improvement plans.
Accountable for the manufacture of quality product which meets the customer specification.
Measure and review KPI’s to ensure the site meets its operational objectives.
Continuous improvement driven through developing people and fostering teamwork and optimise processes across various shifts and areas.
Degree or the equivalent practical experience in food manufacturing; a complete knowledge of all phases of production line functions on all products
This position requires a minimum of five years experience in managerial position in food manufacturing ideally chilled food.
Experience in managing manufacturing operations with a good understanding and experience of driving KPI’s through high performing teams
An ability to coach and train procedures and requirements; the ability to lead and motivate others; experience in labour relations, including grievance procedures.
