This role is for a Lead Technical Architect who will work as part of IT Service Creation to design and deliver high quality solutions that meet Business Requirements and help drive the Agency to become a leader in Digital Services. The role requires excellent technical and leadership skills and strong presentation and communications skills commensurate with being accountable for all technical aspects of delivering complex solutions, including end-to-end solution design, delivery governance, assurance and support for Engineers and Delivery Managers. The DVLA deliver wide reaching digital services to the UK public and industry. We maintain the national record of vehicles and drivers which means we reach over 40 million people a year. If you have applied for a driving licence, changed vehicle, relicensed your vehicle or completed a vehicle enquiry you would have used one of our services. You’ll get to work alongside our business service designers and agile software development teams and use modern and exciting technologies. About You You will have a solid software/application engineering background having worked in an architect role to deliver enterprise and cloud based software systems. You will also have: - a familiarity with data security principles and systems that are designed to protect sensitive data - a desire to create and maintain solution designs in an iterative and collaborative manner - the ability to think strategically about business, product, and technical challenges - excellent technical skills with the experience to be held accountable for technical aspects of delivering complex solutions, including end-to-end solution design, delivery governance, assurance and support for Engineers and Delivery Managers - great interpersonal skills allowing you to work with technical and non-technical stakeholders alike If you have the necessary experience and exposure of cloud technologies, we would love to hear from you. You will be able to drive discussions with senior leaders across the agency as well as having the technical background that will enable you to easily interact and give guidance to software developers, testers and engineers. About the role You'll get to work with software teams developing: - business services and utilities using Java and SpringBoot alongside tools like OpenAPI - front-end applications and reusable components using a combination of Ruby on Rails and React We’re also building serverless solutions where it makes sense and we’re actively working to understand how to push this further.
